USA GAMES 2026
Team Pennsylvania proudly competed at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minneapolis–Saint Paul, Minnesota, from June 20–26. The delegation included 91 athletes and Unified partners, along with 25 coaches, who represented Pennsylvania in 11 different sports across venues throughout the Twin Cities region.
Among those representing the Commonwealth was our very own Team Northampton Wildcats Flag Football team, which showcased its talent, determination, and teamwork on the national stage. Competitions were held at premier facilities, including the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota, where athletes from across the country came together to celebrate inclusion, excellence, and the spirit of Special Olympics.

Team Northampton Meets Pennsylvania First Lady Lori Shapiro
One of the most memorable moments of the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games came when Team Northampton had the opportunity to meet Pennsylvania First Lady Lori Shapiro.
While Team Northampton coaches Amanda, Glenn, and Brendon were visiting the Motor Activities Training Program (MATP) event offered during the USA Games, they were surprised to run into First Lady Shapiro. After meeting our coaches and learning about Team Northampton’s mission, and journey to the national stage, First Lady Shapiro immediately expressed that she wanted the opportunity to meet our Flag Football athletes and hear their Special Olympics stories firsthand.
After spending time with the team, getting to know our athletes, and hearing about the dedication and determination that brought them to the USA Games, First Lady Shapiro made it her mission to attend our preliminary game the following day.
True to her word, First Lady Shapiro was on the sidelines cheering loudly as our Wildcats battled Kentucky in one of the most exciting games of the tournament. With the support of our families, coaches, and First Lady Shapiro, Team Northampton earned an unforgettable 46-45 victory.
It was truly a joy and a privilege to have Pennsylvania’s First Lady take the time to get to know our athletes, celebrate their accomplishments, and cheer them on as they proudly represented Team Pennsylvania on the national stage. Her encouragement and genuine support made an already unforgettable USA Games experience even more special for our entire delegation.
Team Northampton Wildcats Take in a Minnesota Twins Game at Target Field
While attending the 2026 USA Games in Minnesota, the Team Northampton Wildcats had the incredible opportunity to experience a Major League Baseball game at the beautiful Target Field. Our athletes and coaches enjoyed an exciting matchup between the Minnesota Twins and the Los Angeles Dodgers, making for a memorable evening after the competition.
One of the biggest highlights of the night was getting to watch baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani take the mound for the Dodgers. Seeing one of the game’s biggest stars in action made the experience even more special for everyone in attendance.
Although the hometown Twins came up just short in a thrilling 4-3 victory for the Dodgers, the game provided an unforgettable experience for our athletes and coaches. It was a wonderful team-building opportunity that allowed everyone to relax, make lasting memories together, and enjoy one of America’s favorite pastimes during an incredible week at the USA Games.
Team Northampton Wildcats Finish Fourth in the Nation at the 2026 USA Games
After an incredible week of competition at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, the Team Northampton Wildcats proudly earned a 4th place finish in Division I Flag Football. Competing against the best teams from across the country, this remarkable accomplishment means our Wildcats are officially the 4th-ranked Special Olympics Flag Football team in the nation.
While the medal we hoped for was just out of reach, the determination, sportsmanship, teamwork, and heart our athletes displayed throughout the tournament made us proud every step of the way. They represented Team Pennsylvania, Team Northampton, and our entire community with class and pride on the national stage.
To our athletes: thank you for believing in one another, giving everything you had, and showing the country what Team Northampton is all about. You may have finished fourth in the standings, but you’ll always be first place in your coaches’ hearts.
