This year Northampton County Special Olympics started a new eight week program called All Sports Camp. The athletes were
able to participate in eight different sports at the Charles Chrin Community Center on Tuesdays from 4:15-5:00 pm. The athletes participated in Basketball, Softball, Floor Hockey, Tennis, Soccer, Volleyball, Track and Field and Flag Football. The athletes seemed to enjoy Floor Hockey and Flag Football the most. We will hopefully be starting eight week programs of Floor Hockey and Flag Football in the future. On Sunday, November 13, five members of the Special Olympics committee gathered at Wind Gap Middle School to learn more about starting Flag Football for NCSO. Participants learned about the necessary gear and equipment, rules
of the game, and even ran some practice drills! One participant even learned that a running back indeed runs forward, not backward! The committee looks forward to beginning this new sport with our athletes and will have the first trial run on Tuesday, November 22. Beware if you come as a spectator! The rules for this flag football game are quite different-- including pass-only zones and "dead ball" if there's a fumble or interception. No worries, we'll have you covered with a spectator guide so you can cheer on the athletes! Stay tuned for info regarding a "Flag Football Season." |
