The Torch Award was created to honor the program that has gone above and beyond to support Special Olympics PA and its fellow programs. Our Torch Award program is dynamic, engaged, adaptable and consistently willing to partner. For three years they brought close to 100 people down to Neshaminy State Park by bus to participate in the Eastern Polar Plunge. However, in 2013, they worked with the State Office and other local programs to help coordinate and lead the first ever Lehigh Valley Polar Plunge. Due in large part to the programs unfailing dedication to the events’ success, the Lehigh Valley Plunge far exceeded expectations with more than $90,000 raised and over 600 plungers in year one. In 2014, they helped incorporate a wildly successful Super Plunge in addition to the regular plunge, raising nearly $110,000 combined in year two!
Our Torch Award winning program has also partnered with the state office and other local programs on the TD Campaign, SOPA Night at the 76ers, Interscholastic Unified Sports and the Beaver Stadium Run. The program’s leadership, talents and passion is always evident but never more so than over the past year. Please join me in passing the Torch onto Northampton County Special Olympics and County Manager Amanda Sechrist! |
